Def Jam Comedy

Def Jam Comedy is a popular American television show that aired on the HBO network. Def Jam Comedy’s first run lasted from 1992 until 1997 when it finished. It was brought back to HBO in 2006 due to popular demand and is continuing to air. Def Jam comedy was created by legendary music mogul and hip hop producer Russell Simmons who was instrumental in forming the record label Def Jam.

Def Jam Comedy usually exclusively features African American and Black stand up comedians from other parts of the world. Many black stand up comedians who enjoy an incredibly high level of success today got their first break after appearing on the Def Jam Comedy program.

Even though Def Jam Comedy was only ever aired in the USA it has attended cult status in many other countries around the world. There are several Def Jam Comedy DVDs available which have enjoyed significantly high sales around the world. There also DVDs box sets containing every volume of Def Jam Comedy currently available on DVD.

In recent years lives tours featuring several of the best known acts from Def Jam Comedy have been travelled to various locations around the world. Most of the shows on these Def Jam Comedy tours were a sell out which goes to show that the program still remains very popular even it is well over fifteen years old.
